Dance Floor Etiquette
Partner/Circle dancers have priority. The line of dance is always anti-clockwise around the outside edge of the floor
Never step onto the dance floor carrying a drink
Please keep phones off the dance floor – they can be knocked out of your hand and they break easily
Always walk around the edge of the dance floor – never cross through lines of moving dancers
If music is playing, please move off the dance floor to chat – never stay on the floor to talk. If space is tight, consider leaving the room
Be helpful and welcoming to newcomers, visitors and guests – we were all new at one point
When dancing near beginners – be mindful and courteous and keep turns / step variations to a minimum, especially during instruction sessions
Only start a different dance if there is room and you sense it would be acceptable or follow the DJ’s instructions for splitting the floor
If a dance has already started, always join at the end of a line if room allows, or start a new line to avoid disruption to moving dancers
If the floor is crowded, take small steps, enjoy the company, but watch out for collisions!
If you bump into someone, it’s nice to apologise whether it’s your fault or not
If possible start another line rather than joining one that will block the edges
Don’t be tempted to stop dancing to teach, please do this off the dance floor
When starting a dance, go to the front so others can fall in behind
But most importantly, have fun and enjoy yourselves
