Useful Information

So, you have taken your first steps towards hitting the dance floor, congratulations. We hope you will learn to love Line Dancing as much as we do. Here is some information that you may find useful ahead of your first session.

We are having discussions about starting a new Absolute Beginner course, however, this is still in the initial stages. This means you will be joining our already established Absolute Beginner/Beginner level classes. This is nothing to worry about, it just means that the dancers will already know some dances and some of the move names – do not let this put you off. The dances that are taught will only be at an Absolute Beginner/Beginner level, so you will soon be Bootscootin’ with the rest of the class.

What should I wear?
You do not need a pair of Western Style Boots to enjoy Line Dancing. We recommend wearing something you are comfortable in to start with. You also do not need to have a Stetson Hat or checked shirt, again wear something you feel comfortable in, but remember you will probably get warm shuffling across the floor.

What time should I arrive?
We recommend arriving about 15 minutes before the class start time so that you can get settled in. The class will start with a warm up dance and then we begin instruction. Do not worry if when you get there and people are dancing. You have not missed the start of the class if you arrive early, it will be some dancers going through some dances on their own.

Can I sit down?
There is not really any room for seats on a Monday evening, although we do have limited space to put a couple of chairs out if needed in the foyer. There is no bar on a Monday evening, so please bring water or squash with you, or we do have bottled water available to purchase. Seating is available on a Thursday evening, along with a bar where you can buy hot and cold drinks.

What payment methods do you accept?
You can pay by cash or card, including Apple and Google pay.

I’m nervous, should I be worried?
Absolutely not, our instructor was nervous at their first class too, it’s only natural. Come along and have some fun.

Will I always be an Absolute Beginner/Beginner?
No, ideally we would like you to progress to one of our improver classes within 6 months. This may feel daunting, but it’s the best way to learn more dances, yes the difficulty level increases, but maybe not as much as you think. Watching other dancers may make a dance look difficult if you have never seen it before, but once you are guided through it soon becomes easier. We do not expect you to master a dance first time, that is why we will continue teaching a dance for a few weeks.

What is the time commitment?
As much, or as little as you like. But remember, practice makes perfect. Spending 5-10 minutes a week going over the dances you have learned makes a huge difference to your dancing and your confidence levels.

How else can I practice?
We offer social evenings periodically for you to attend and dance in a relaxed atmosphere. These evenings are open to dancers of all abilities, so do not expect to know every dance that will be played as we will cater for all ability levels.

Can my children attend?
We welcome children who are sensible, want to learn to Line Dancing and can follow our Dance Floor Etiquette. A responsible adult must remain present for the duration of the class, although the adult does not necessarily need to dance.

What else do I need to know?
Familiarise yourself with our Dance Floor Etiquette, think of this as the rules of the dance floor/class. We do not want to stop people from enjoying themselves, but, during instruction sessions, please be respectful to your fellow dancers and our instructor and keep noise levels to a minimum. Take natural steps and if you do bump into someone politely apologise. We have dancers of all ages at our classes, so share the floor equally.

Some Other Top Tips
Come along with an open mind, be prepared to join in and dance like no one is watching.
Try not to over think things.
Listen to the music, count the beats, it really helps.
If you need help, just ask.
Take your time, don’t get frustrated and remember practice makes perfect. Where possible, we publish instruction videos of the dances taught at each class so you can have a go at home. These videos may be our own, or other clubs.
This may be your first time, don’t give up even if you feel you won’t get it. It can take a good few weeks to get settled and for your confidence levels to increase.
Look up, smile and enjoy yourself – it’s meant to be a fun night out.
